Recently, Gerry Coyle, Vice President Environmental & Sustainable Operations, attended the first meeting of a newly organized Federal Advisory Committee. This committee, The Ports Initiative Workgroup is a subcommittee of the Mobil Sources Technical Review Committee. The goal of this workgroup is; A.) advise the U.S. EPA on how to effectively measure air quality and greenhouse gas performance of ports and/or terminals within the port and B.) design elements for an EPA lead voluntary program to improve environmental performance as goods move through ports.
Members of the committee include representatives from Shippers, Railroads, Ports, Steamship Lines, State Government, Federal Government and Non-Governmental Organizations and of course, a drayage carrier.
The focus of this initial meeting was, reducing emissions at the ports, available funding, voluntary programs, emissions inventories, incentives, metrics and technology.
