Mike Heil Joins Evans Network as Executive Director of IT

November 28, 2011

Mike Heil joined the Evans Network of Companies May 9, 2011 as Executive Director of IT. Mike and his staff of four are responsible for all things related to technology.  This includes things you would normally associate with IT such as setting up new users and agents, answering Help Desk requests, managing the email systems, website and social media, the back-up system and all of the master licenses for the varied software programs used on the Evans computer system.  But that is just the beginning.

The IT department looks for ways to enhance processes and systems for all Evans users. This means providing support for training programs; maintaining the EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system for agents; accounting systems; managing software and hardware; Change requests; and monitoring the portal access for drivers, agents and customers.

Mike and his team also evaluate hardware and software purchases working with vendors to obtain the best products at the best prices.  Of course, this also means he is responsible for the IT budget and installation of any new programs.

He is a graduate of Millersville University with a BS degree in Computer Science.  Prior to joining Evans was a product manager, programmer and software developer.  Mike has a PMP Certification (Project Management Professional).

He and his wife Mary Kay live in Gilbertsville with their son Jake and daughter Raechel. An avid sports fan, Mike coached girls basketball in the AAU ranks and loves to play golf. A self-professed “beer snob” he enjoys traveling to beer festivals and sampling events.

Gerard Coyle, VP for Environmental & Sustainable Operations is the point person on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for Evans – and for you!  Jerry frequently participates in conferences, seminars, meetings with legislators and other activities to promote the Evans position on pending legislation affecting the trucking industry.

Recently  he made a trip to Washington, DC with the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) to visit with key contacts in Congress.  Some of the topics discussed were: The Transportation Reauthorization Bill, Independent Contractor Reclassification and Hours of Service Rules.  Jerry met with a dozen officials along with other members of the TIA and some of Evans’ largest clients.

He recently sent an email to all of you recapping the Evans position on these topics.  If you missed it, here’s a link to his full report.

Evans Ranked in Top 100 by Three Major Industry Publications

November 15, 2011

Once again, Evans has been named to three of the industry’s lead publications Top 100 lists.  Transport Topics magazine ranked Evans #79, up from #94 last year.  The ranking is based on data compiled from public and private for-hire trucking companies including revenue, number of employees, equipment, etc.  Publisher Howard Abramson noted, “Almost two-thirds of the 100 largest motor carriers in 1980 have closed their doors and many of the remaining fleets were acquired or merged with other companies.”  He continues, “Survivors are always those companies that adapt most successfully to changing circumstances. “  (Word from the Publisher, Top 100 For-Hire Carriers 2011, September 2011.) Click here for the full list.

Each year, Inbound Logistics editors select the best transportation providers by carefully evaluating submitted information, conducting personal interviews and online research, and comparing that data to their readers’ burgeoning motor freight and logistics challenges.  ILeditors selected this year’s class of Top 100 Motor Carriers from a pool of more than 200 companies. The service providers selected are companies that, in the opinion ofIL editors, offer the diverse operational capabilities and experience to meet unique supply chain and logistics needs.    “Given today’s economic challenges, and the complexity of better matching supply to demand, it’s impressive that Evans Delivery continues to provide the kinds of motor freight solutions Inbound Logistics readers need. Inbound Logistics is proud to recognize Evans Delivery as a 2011 Top 100 Motor Freight Carrier,” Felecia Stratton, Editor,Inbound Logistics.
