Truckers’ experiences at ports unpredictable

November 12, 2014

Venson Gunter and Clarence Epps start their workdays with the crunch of heavy metal.

It’s not a blast from stereo speakers, but thunderous clanks from the hitches on their trucks as they back into cargo containers waiting to be whisked away.

Gunter and Epps make their livings hauling boxes filled with tons of goods of all kinds to and from the port of Hampton Roads.

While the tractors are their own, they drive under contracts with Century Express, a trucking company operating out of the old Ford plant in Norfolk.

April 2014 is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

March 23, 2014

It’s a Fact.  3,328people  were killed in distracted driving crashes in 2012. Distracted driving is becoming a dangerous epidemic on America’s roadways.Research shows that high visibility enforcement works because, with many distracted drivers, the fear of a citation and significant fine outweighs their fear of being injured or killed in a crash.

Dates to Remember: Get Involved – Spread The Word
April 10-15: 1st national distracted driving enforcement efforts (DOT will be on the lookout for distracted drivers more than ever on these dates) Tell your drivers about these dates!!

Seat Belts – 3 seconds to fasten – Do It!

November 11, 2013

We have been trying to wrap our heads around the numbers we have been seeing in our seatbelt observations over the last 3 months.

Between the cities of Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New Jersey we are averaging one seatbelt violation in every three trucks observed. Thankfully we were able to observe and reach out to these drivers before they had a bigger problem on their hands in the event that a Department of Transportation officer spotted them. Your drivers are at risk of getting a violation, being put on probation, and most importantly killing themselves or someone’s loved one if they don’t wear their seat belt. This is by far the EASIEST violation in CSA to avoid. Please help us do just that.

Attached are two flyers you can post and distribute to your contractors  – one in English Seat Belt Myths and one in Spanish Seat Belt Myths – Spanish.

CSA Awareness Phone Training

November 11, 2013
rarick2

Scott Rarick

As you may have seen the previous emails from Troy and Brent, I too am communicating the new time changes for the CSA Awareness Phone Training.  The change in times were made after feedback that we have received from Agents.

In response to this feedback, we will be implementing these new times to make it easier for the operators to call.  The biggest issue that we heard from the Agents was the 11AM time slot wasn’t good for them to call into.  That’s why we’ve decided to add 4PM EST (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and also 6PM EST (Tuesday and Thursday).  Also we will be a Saturday morning call as well – that will be 10/26 & 11/30 (both at 11AM EST).

These new times will go into effect starting this Monday, October 21st.  Please help us by communicating to your respective operators the importance of this training and the new times.

1)Please have your contractors watch the CSA 2013 Power Point on Pit Stop

2) Dial into our 2x daily conference call
