Evans University – Upcoming Workshops

July 6, 2013

Driver Recruiting & Retention Workshop Updated
The Driver Recruiting and Retention workshop has been updated to include a module on “Community Based Recruiting”. CBR includes identification of community groups (houses of worship, ethnic community organizations and centers, local markets in ethnic neighborhoods, etc.) that can be excellent locations to recruit drivers because of the existing communication networks they can offer to get the word to potential driver recruits.  Operations is also working on a “driver opportunity comparison” spreadsheet that will allow an Agent to provide a driver candidate with an analysis of the opportunity with Evans as compared their current arrangement.  This will assist the driver to remember all the advantages of signing on with Evans once they leave the interview.

Upcoming Evans University Workshops dates:

August 23, 24 & 25

October 25, 26 & 27

Topics will be those that the Agents indicate interest in attending (Business Strategy and Planning, Driver Recruiting and Retention, Customer Service or Sales at the Terminal Level).  Kim will be sending the course options to all Agents and soliciting their interest level.  Depending on interest levels, the course topics will be chosen.

West Motor Freight Teams Up with Berks Career & Technology Center

July 5, 2013

Recently elected as chair of the Occupational Advisory Committee, Deb played an important role in securing two trailers for the school’s new CDL (Class A & B) training program.  Additionally, the school has become a Third Party Examiner for CDL, preparing students to pass the written and road tests required for entry level tractor trainer driving positions.  The school has created a specific trainingcenter for the program located approximately 2 miles north of the West Campus in Leesport, PA.

The first class is scheduled to begin on September 9th, 2013 with 4-5 students.  The CDL Class A program is 150 hours and includes approximately 46 hours of one on one training with an instructor on both the newly constructed CDL driving range and on the road.

“I can’t thank Deb Raymond and Bob Petruzzi from West Motor Freight enough for all of their support,” noted Doug Keim, Director of Continuing Education at BCTC.  “We know there is a need for drivers in the industry and hope this program will grow quickly to include many, many more students and help our local employers to find well trained drivers.”  BCTC will be the only CDL training provider in Berks County.
