Each year many people go through the exercise of establishing a laundry list of New Year’s Resolutions. Many examples come to mind on the when I think about “non-work” life, and we all know them: Go to the gym, lose 10 pounds, spend more time with family, and the list can go on. I think that it is wonderful that we at least stop long enough to think about what we could do to make our lives more fulfilling. Even if we come up a little short of our goals, the fact that we reflected on the lives and made an effort to improve in some way is fantastic.

I challenge each of you to think about your business in the same way. Reflect on where your business is now and what different results you want to achieve. The following excerpt comes directly from “The Daily Drucker,” Peter F. Drucker. I think that his thoughts are pertinent to business owners, department managers, or any other employee as we think about our business.

The Function of Management Is to Produce Results 
Above all management is responsible for producing results.

Management has to give direction to the institution it manages. It has to think through the institution’s mission, has to set its objectives, and has to organize resources for the results the institution has to contribute. Management is, indeed, J. B. Say’s “entrepreneur” and responsible for directing vision and resources toward greatest results and contributions. In performing these essential functions, management everywhere faces the same problems. It has to organize work for productivity; it has to lead the worker toward productivity and achievement. It is responsible for the social impact of its enterprise. Above all, it is responsible for producing the results-whether economic performance, student learning, or patient care -for the sake of which each institution exists.

ACTION POINT: Is your organization delivering the results it should? If not, articulate your mission.!

Evans University – Upcoming Workshops

Driver Recruiting & Retention Workshop Updated
The Driver Recruiting and Retention workshop has been updated to include a module on “Community Based Recruiting”. CBR includes identification of community groups (houses of worship, ethnic community organizations and centers, local markets in ethnic neighborhoods, etc.) that can be excellent locations to recruit drivers because of the existing communication networks they can offer to get the word to potential driver recruits.  Operations is also working on a “driver opportunity comparison” spreadsheet that will allow an Agent to provide a driver candidate with an analysis of the opportunity with Evans as compared their current arrangement.  This will assist the driver to remember all the advantages of signing on with Evans once they leave the interview.

October 25, 26 & 27

Topics will be those that the Agents indicate interest in attending (Business Strategy and Planning, Driver Recruiting and Retention, Customer Service or Sales at the Terminal Level).  Kim will be sending the course options to all Agents and soliciting their interest level.  Depending on interest levels, the course topics will be chosen.

JEFF WOODALL Wins Harley Davidson Motorcycle!

This year’s safety winner is Jeff Woodall of the Land Transportation Terminal in Jacksonville Florida!  He has been with us for 10 years.  His name was drawn from all of the eligible drivers – see the video of the drawing – and he received the keys to his new Harley last week at Adamec Harley DavidsonHarley photo 4

“Safety is a cornerstone of the Evans Network of Companies,” noted Kim Lorimer, Vice President and Director of Safety.  “The incentive program is one way we promote and reward our drivers who operate safely throughout the year.”

To qualify for the motorcycle grand prize, drivers must have had no accidents or incidents in a calendar year, as well as keeping proper documentation such as daily logs, fuel purchases and miles traveled.  In addition to the grand prize random drawing, monthly drawings are held for prizes including computers, digital cameras and Evans apparel.

“When we got the call and found out Jeff had won the Harley my entire office was hooting, hollering and high-fiving!” said Walter Chaboude, agent at the Land Jacksonville location.  “Jeff deserved this for all of his hard work and dedication to Land Transportation.  He is 100% compliant and safe and goes above and beyond for us all the time.  Plus he’s a diehard biker!”

Walter went on to say that Jeff has been rebuilding his Dad’s (Walter’s) 1978 original Gold Wing 1000 that had sat in Walter’s garage in boxes.  “Literally in boxes, in hundreds of rusted pieces and it’s almost done.  Two years of work!”
